지난 토요일 밤,

Last Saturday night,
she had stared at her son’s face
in alarm at these words.
이 주 만일뿐인데 아이는 또 성큼 자랐다.
전보다 커 보였고 또 여위기도 했다.
He’d grown again, even in the space of two weeks,
looking taller, but also slimmer, than before.

In the late-night darkness that day in june,
the smell of waterlogged grass and tree sap
mingled with the smells of food waste.
아이를 데려다준 뒤
여자는 두 시간 가까이
서울의 중심부를 통과해 걸었다,
버스를 타는 대신.
After dropping off her son,
she walked the nearly two-hour route
through the centre of Seoul
instead of taking the bus.
